Murders and Executions Create Friendships
Tyrion had a long chapter in A Dance with Dragons, and he spent most of it speaking with Penny, one of the little people who jousted at Joffrey's wedding. I feel really bad for her, because her brother was killed because a couple of drunks thought he was Tyrion and they killed him. It's definitely understandable that she tried to kill Tyrion after that. It's a little weird that they're actually becoming friends, because she really seemed to hate him. Tyrion's attempt to teach her how to play cyvasse was pretty funny. It really shows how different Tyrion is from other little people in the Game of Thrones universe. He learned to make up for his stature with brains and jokes, but none of the others had that opportunity. I guess he had that option because he comes from a powerful family. Also, his conversations with the red priest were really interesting. That guy is seeing some really bad stuff in the flames, but I'm pretty sure a lot of it is wrong, because interpreting the visions is difficult and he's seeing a lot of things that don't seem to exist in their world, like a ten-armed creature riding a river of blood. At least it allowed us to learn a little bit about the fall of Old Valyria. We don't usually get to learn a lot about the lore, so I thought it was refreshing and interesting.
