Harpoona Matata

Today I learned about whaling, because I thought up an okay title and I wasn't willing to do another topic if I didn't have one of those. Anyhoo, the website was https://iwc.int/aboriginal and it turns out that all those green-loving peace mongering environmental fanatics are totally fine with you going out and bludgeoning a humpback as long as it's part of your culture. Instead, they just try to make sure the population of the whales is kept decently high. The reasoning for this is that introducing regulations to this could have a serious impact on their culture, and as long as they don't do it for commercial reasons it's totally okay. I'd like to point out that slavery was a huge part of our culture, but then we did that for commercial reasons, so I guess there's actually a difference. Basically, the country who wants to go out and harpoon a beluga or two sends a letter to the IWC (International Whaling Commission) and some scientists consider the whole population, nutritional value thing. If the scientists give them the go ahead, then that country can impale as many whales they want, as long as they stay in the limits the scientists recommend.
